Why are the 2022 midterm elections important and what’s on the ballot?

Every two years or so, Minnesotans can expect to hear what appears to be recycled rhetoric on the importance of voting, and why “THIS election” is so important. It is so predictable that one could be forgiven for tuning out the noise and focusing on the day-to-day challenges that we all navigate on personal and professional levels. However, the day-to-day challenges that we all have to navigate are precisely what makes voting so very important. With a public health crisis, attacks on fundamental human rights, and insecurities in housing, access to quality healthcare and education, there are so many reasons to make your voice heard this election cycle. Your vote has the power to create a more equitable society for yourself, your colleagues, your loved ones, and all the communities that we serve at Wilder.

You might be wondering who and what is on your ballot this fall. Following the 2020 Census, U.S. House seats were distributed based on population and congressional boundaries were redrawn. As a result of redistricting, every seat in the House of Representatives is up for grabs this election. Additionally, there are are 35 U.S. Senate seats and 36 governorships on ballots across the country. Closer to home, there are several critical races ongoing, including Minnesota’s gubernatorial race, races for secretary of state and attorney general and races for every single seat in the Minnesota state legislature. Here in the Twin Cities, your ballots will look a bit different based on where you live. You can view your sample ballot by address here.

• U.S. representative
• Governor & Lt. Governor
• Secretary of State
• State Auditor
• Attorney General
• State Senator
• State Representative
• Judicial seats

MN Voters may have one or more of these races on their ballot:

• County officials
• City officers
• School Board members
• Township officers
• Local ballot questions
