Kyla Goux

Kyla is a queer, disabled research associate with research passions focusing on food and environmental justice topics. They have experience with projects that range from early childhood education and disability justice to racial and culturally centered health care. Kyla also spearheads Wilder's community-based and alternative data collection methods for youth and adults through community-based participatory research.

Kingston Fellowship Award winner 2023: Kyla used the Kingston Fellowship to pursue a Sustainable Food Systems Graduate Certificate from Harvard Extension School Division for Continuing Education. They plan on making this the focus of their career and hope to solidify subject expertise within the current methodologies and practices, including socioeconomic and cultural structures that influence food systems. 

Kyla holds a bachelor's degree in international relations and psychology, with a minor in sociology, from Wheaton College in Massachusetts. Before Wilder, they served on research teams that focused on topics such as housing inequality and racial bias and threat perception. They have also conducted clinical research on individual and family coping mechanisms at a medical decision support and advocacy organization. Their most recent positions focused on social and food justice education in agriculture for a food rescue nonprofit. Kyla's breadth of experience primes them to work with diverse stakeholders across a range of domains and to think critically about large systems and their impact on communities.

Outside of Wilder, you can find Kyla tending to their garden, making allergen-friendly snacks, crafting, and generally exploring. As a born-and-raised Minnesotan, they also love traveling around with their pup and finding places to hike and hammock.
