The Amherst H. Wilder Foundation has appointed Brad Hewitt, former CEO of Thrivent Financial, as Interim CEO effective November 1. Hewitt will succeed MayKao Y. Hang, the Foundation’s sixth president in its 113-year history. He will fill this role while Wilder’s Board of Directors conducts a search for the Foundation’s next president and CEO.

As Interim CEO, Hewitt will oversee the operations of Wilder’s programs, research and community-building divisions, as well as its fundraising and administrative functions. Wilder serves thousands of individuals each year with mental health, housing, leadership, and aging and caregiving supports. The Foundation’s research arm produces hundreds of reports each year on a range of topics such as homelessness, early childhood development, and public health.

“Brad is an exceptional leader who is passionate about making a positive difference in our region,” says Wilder Board Chair Julie Brunner. “His guidance will allow the board of directors to focus on a thorough search for the Foundation’s next president and CEO.”

Hewitt has more than 20 years of experience in leadership roles at large mission-based organizations. During his time at Thrivent, a Fortune 500 financial services company, he championed several company-wide diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. He serves as Chair of the Itasca Project, an employer-led cross-sector group that works to improve the quality of life for all in Minnesota. He is also Board Chair for Habitat for Humanity International and a member of the board of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation. Hewitt volunteers as a mentor and is frequently asked to speak on financial stewardship, leadership and ethics.

“Wilder’s mission and values are close to my heart,” says Hewitt. “I am more than excited to step into this interim role so the Foundation can continue the work of transforming lives and communities.”
