Wilder Meals on Wheels volunteers honored with the 2021 Sandy Kiernat Community Service Award
Normally, Wilder honors one or two volunteers each year with the Sandy Kiernat Community Service Award, which recognizes and celebrates outstanding volunteers who exemplify the spirit of Sandy Kiernat, a Wilder Board Member and longtime advocate of community service. This year, Wilder is honoring more than 60 Meals on Wheels volunteers with this award for their extraordinary dedication during the pandemic. Congratulations, volunteers!
Volunteers in Wilder’s Meals on Wheels program have helped ensure that participants have access to healthy meals. “Without our Meals on Wheels volunteers, working both ‘behind the scenes’ and out delivering meals, our programming simply wouldn’t exist,” Wilder Meals on Wheels coordinator Christine Miller says. This year in particular, we want to commemorate our volunteers’ efforts for ensuring that people are fed when they live alone, have difficulty preparing meals, or are staying home because of health conditions, disabilities or limited mobility.
Through the combined efforts of Meals on Wheels volunteers, Wilder delivered 45,000 meals to nearly 300 clients in 2020 – more than double the amount of meals we’ve delivered in previous years. Thank you to our volunteers for making this possible!
